Painting or dyeing Dyes on Protein or Cellulose fibers
- Wash all dye projects with Orvus the night before
- Wet out all dye projects in Washing soda for 30 minutes before dyeing.
Bring water to boil then let cool to 130 degrees F and add 10% of dry weight of the projects to be dyed of washing soda, stir well to dissolve powder then add projects.
- Mix stock dyes in plastic bottles with distilled water. Mark bottles with color and dye number. The stocks are 2% solution or 20 grams of powder to 12 liter of distilled water. Stock colors then can be mixed to produce other colors.
- Put dyed projects in baggies and let set for 24 to 48 hours. First rinse in cold running watter. Then neutralize in vinegar bath for 5 to 10 minutes. (1% vinegar for weight of product) Wash in very hot Orvus water for 20 minutes and rinse until water is clear. Hang to dry.
